Sugar Cookie Christmas Trees

Well after seeing lots of beautiful Christmas Sugar Cookies on blogs, I thought I would give them a try. This was my first attempt at royal icing and boy do I need practice! I began with Christmas trees since I thought they would be the easiest to decorate. I used this sugar cookie recipe from Our Best Bites. The cookies tasted fantastic and I will definitely use this recipe again. The royal icing is where I need help! I used this recipe I found on Good Things Catered and it tastes good, but I don't think I thinned it enough, because I had to use a toothpick to spread it out on the cookie. Katie is obviously a much better cookie decorator than I am! I used a Wilton #2 tip to outline the tree and a #3 to flood, but I guess I shouldn't use the word flood since mine was way too thick! If anyone has some cookie decorating tips for me, please feel free to email me - I need all the help I can get! Anyway, they turned out okay for my first sugar cookies, but one of my New Year's resolutions is to definitely become a better decorator in 2010! Merry Christmas!

  1. Despite the minor issues with flooding (or should I say spreading?) your cookies really came out nice. I'd eat them -- does that count?

I can't offer any suggestions on thinning your icing since I've never flooded a cookie before; I've only read about it and dreamed of the day that I got up the patience necessary to do it. Haha.

Merry Christmas to your and your family!

  2. Trial and error is the best advice! I had the same problem (I'm sure most newbies do)in the begining! Try visiting sweetopia;o)
