PW's Bread Pudding

This is by far the best Bread Pudding recipe I have ever made! If you are a Bread Pudding type of person you should make this NOW. This is the fourth time I have made it and I always receive compliments on how yummy it is. My sister-in-law, Michelle and I can eat almost the entire dish ourselves - we love it that much! I found the recipe on Pioneer Woman. I have loved every recipe that I have made on her site and now I have her cookbook too! PW has a Whiskey Cream Sauce recipe that you can make to serve with it, but I prefer whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. I buy my sourdough round loaf in the bakery of Wal-mart or Martins Grocery Store.
The Best Bread Pudding
2 eggs
2 T melted butter
2 T vanilla
2 1/2 cups milk
2 cups sugar
3 1/2 to 5 cups sourdough bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
1/3 cup pecans, chopped finely
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Beat together eggs, butter, vanilla and milk.
Add sugar and mix until sugar is dissolved. Arrange bread cubes tightly in a nine-inch baking dish, keeping the crust facing up around the edges scattered within the dish. Pour liquid over the bread (I let mine sit a little to let most of the liquid get absorbed by the bread before baking). Sprinkle pecans all over and bake for 55 to 70 minutes, or until crust is golden brown all over the top.
Serve with Whiskey Cream Sauce, whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Enjoy!

  4. I bet either that Whiskey Cream sauce or vanilla ice cream would taste really good with this bread pudding. I love that you can eat that much of it -- you sound like me!!

  5. Oh, we LOVE bread pudding. My one twins' absolute fave is banana bread pudding.

Can I ask a question? When you serve this does it come out in one piece or is it soft and custardy? I'm not sure what the texture of bread pudding is supposed to be. The ones a restaurants seem to be firm yet mine at home aren't. Just curious. Thanks for the recipe. I'll be trying it soon!

    Happy Friday!

  6. Ingrid - I serve this in the same dish that I prepare it in. When you spoon it out it is in one piece. The bread on the bottom is soft, but the top is a little crunchy and oh so good! PW has a great tutorial on it on her site. Hope you like it if you give it a try :)

  7. You have yours laid out so pretty, impressive, I never do that. Sourdough, really? I use sweet french but will have to try it. I am beginning to think Pioneer Woman needs to be on the Food Network with her own show.

  8. Hey, there! One of the twins and I made this the night that I posted but we found it to be SUPER sweet. (it was still gone by the next day! :) I didn't have sourdough bread..did you? I don't think it could have made much difference. We did top it with homemade cinnamon ice cream so it cut some of the sweetness. Thanks, again!
