Daily Kitchen Cleaning Checklist

While growing up on my parent's farm we never had a dishwasher, so hand washing
dishes was the norm in our old farmhouse. My brothers and I each had our daily chores
and washing the dishes after family meals was one of mine. I didn't mind it too much,
except on the days where my mom made something extra messy and I would have to
really scrub to get the pots and pans clean. That was not fun.

Why I Use Essential Oils

I've been using essential oils for several years to make my own sugar scrub, sink scrub
and homemade household cleaners, so this isn't anything new for me.
One of my first blog posts, way back in 2011, was for a homemade carpet deodorizer
using baking soda and essential oil.

DIY Sink Cleaning Scrub

I've been on a mission to use more natural cleaning products in our home.
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products are my favorite, but sometimes I enjoy making
my own, like this homemade carpet freshener.

After washing the evening dishes I've been cleaning the sink with a homemade
sink scrub made simply with baking soda and a few drops of essential oils.
I keeps my sink shiny clean and smells amazing!

Spring Cleaning with OXO

A few years ago, when we remodeled our kitchen, we added a large cabinet/pantry just
for my baking supplies. It was the best decision!  Having all of my specialty pans, cupcake
liners, sprinkles and candy all in one spot is so convenient when I'm baking for my
family or developing recipes for my blog.

Over the past year the baking pantry has gotten a little out of control.  Sprinkles were
all over the place, baking pans were shoved wherever they would fit and candy that
had outlived it's expiration date was making it cluttered and unorganized.
It was time to get it back in shape!

How to Clean Make-Up Brushes

How was your weekend?
Mine was good.
I got a lot accomplished, which is always a good feeling.

There's no recipe post today,but since I did a lot of cleaning and organizing
over the weekend, I thought I would share a tip on how to clean your
make-up brushes.

I make a point to clean my make-up brushes once a month and it pays
off because I have had the two Bare Minerals brushes for several years and
they're still in great condition.
It's also a good idea to clean your brushes for the sake of your skin as well.

To clean your make-up brushes pour equal amounts of water
and distilled white vinegar into a glass or mason jar.
I used 1/3 C of warm water and 1/3 C white vinegar.
Add a drop of baby shampoo to the water mixture.

Spring is finally here and I couldn't be more excited!!

Time for flip flops, grilling out, baseball games and spring cleaning.
I don't mind cleaning when the weather is nice and warm.  Call me crazy!

Household Tip Thursday - How to clean your garbage disposal

Ok, today I thought I would post something a little different and share one of my household cleaning tips.
Just call me Suzy Homemaker - HA HA.

About once a week, or whenever I remember - I like to clean my garbage disposal.
Think about all the stuff you put down that thing - disgusting really. 

I like to use homemade cleaning products when I can - so good old baking soda and vinegar are perfect for this project.  Just dump about 1/2 cup or so of baking soda down the drain, then pour in 1/2 cup white vinegar.  Let it sit for at least 20 minutes.  Rinse with hot water, while running your garbage disposal.

Yay - no more smelly garbage disposal!  You can also put the plug in the dishwasher, so don't forget to do that every now and then too.
