My 3-Day Juice Cleanse

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you probably know that I recently did a
juice cleanse.  I had been thinking about doing one for over a year now and finally got
up the nerve to go for it this month.  I felt my body needed a break from my Diet Coke
addiction and all of the heavy foods I consumed over the holidays.
I needed to feel like I was doing something good for my body.
I needed a reset.
Do you know what I mean?

There are several brands of juice available for cleansing, but after taste testing a few
Garden of Flavor juices at Whole Foods, I chose them for my 3-Day Cleanse.
I wanted the juice for my juice cleanse to be made from all organic fruits and vegetables.
Juicing with non-organic juice just didn't make sense to me.
Why would I want to cleanse my body with juice made with fruit and vegetables
sprayed with pesticides!

The juice arrived on Wednesday afternoon.

I decided to jump right in and start cleansing the next day.

Day 1:

6:00 a.m. Alarm goes off and I wake to shower, etc.
6:15 a.m. I drank a cup of warm lemon water.
You can read the benefits of lemon water in the morning here.
Normally I eat breakfast before I leave for work, but since I wasn't that hungry I decided
to drink my first juice once I got to work.
8:00 a.m. I drink a bottle of Goji Pineapple.  It is delicious and goes down easy.
You are supposed to drink the juices every 2 - 3 hours, but since I had an appointment
that day I didn't get to have my next one until much later.
All during my appointment I had slight headache, most likely from lack of caffeine.
I also feel a bit jittery.
1:00 p.m. I drink Cucumber Fresh.  It has a mild cucumber and celery taste,
I don't care for it as much as I did the first juice, but I still didn't mind it at all.
And I was starving by that point.
Between juicing I am drinking as much water as I can.
3:00 p.m. I drink Mean Greens.  Mean Greens is a combination of cucumber, celery,
kale, spinach, lemon and parsley.  I love green smoothies, so I didn't mind this one at all.
I still have a headache.
Diet Coke is calling my name, but I am determined to do this!

5:30 I drink Twisted Roots, which is carrot, beets and lemon.  Again the juice goes
down easy and I like the taste.
I feel tired and week, so I don't do much at all that evening except read and watch
a little television.  I don't have the energy for much else.
7:30 I drink White Knight.  White Knight is made of cashews, agave, cinnamon and
vanilla.  I am in heaven.  It tastes like a milk shake compared to the other juices and is
my favorite.
I am supposed to drink juice number 6 next, but I am tired and go to sleep instead.
I survive Day 1 of my first juice cleanse and am so proud of myself!

Day 2:

I wake up at the same time as yesterday and drink a cup of warm lemon water.
I have lost 3 1/2 pounds. Yay!
I'm motivated to continue on.

6:45 a.m. I drink Appleade, which consists of apples, ginger root, lemon and probiotic
cultures.  It is really good and I drink it pretty quickly.
That morning I feel slightly hungry, but not as weak as I did the day before.
I drink a bottle of San Pellegrino because I really want a Diet Coke.
I enjoy the fizziness, but it's definitely not the same :)
I keep on schedule and drink another juice every 2 - 3 hours and drink water in between.
I go to the bathroom ALOT :)
I'm not going to lie, I did feel hungry and weak, but my weight loss gave me the
motivation to stick with the plan.
By the time I get home that evening all I want to do is drink my juice, take a bubble bath
and go to bed.

Day 3:

Today is Saturday and I get to sleep in.
I wake up at 8:15 and weight myself. I have lost another pound.
Woo Hoo!
Around 8:30 I drink a cup of warm lemon water.
I also allow myself a cup of breakfast tea with a little unsweetened almond milk.
9:00 a.m. I drink a bottle of Goji Pineapple, one of my faves.
12:15 p.m. I am tired of drinking juice. I want food.
I make a pot of homemade vegetable soup while drinking a bottle of Mean Greens.
2:30 p.m. I break down and have a small bowl of vegetable soup.
I feel full and have the energy to do laundry and other chores around the house.
I don't feel too guilty since this is the third day and I'm still just having vegetables.
4:30 I drink Twisted Roots.
6:30 I have another small bowl of soup followed by a bottle of White Knight for dessert.
If I were to pick my absolute favorite juice it would be White Knight!

I finish out the evening drinking water and going to bed pretty early again.
I feel good about myself.
3 days without a Diet Coke!!!
That is a victory for me!

Overall I lost 4 1/2 pounds in 3 days and I feel proud of myself.
The Garden of Flavor juice cleanse gave me the boost I needed to stay on the
healthy track.  I'm still starting each day with a cup of warm lemon water.
I'm limiting myself to one Diet Coke a day if I want it and drinking water or green tea
the rest of the time.
I've been packing my lunch, eating healthy snacks and making light dinners.

Sure I'll have treats and cheat days every once in a while, but I'm motivated to get
healthier and stronger.  I even tried yoga for the first time this week!

I plan to do a 1-day juice cleanse every six months or so just to give my body a break.
I definitely recommend Garden of Flavor raw, organic, fresh-pressed juice.
They are non-GMO, Gluten-Free, BPA-Free, vegan and taste good too.
You can follow Garden of Flavor on Facebook and Twitter or check out their website for more
information.

Happy Juicing!
